Dominican Republic’s achievements at Fitur:
The Caribbean country made important investments that will continue to generate jobs and boost the sector.
Once again, the Dominican Republic demonstrated at the International Tourism Fair (Fitur), which took place from the 18th to the 22nd of this month in Madrid, Spain, why it is one of the world’s leading destinations in the tourism sector.
From day one, the country impressed with its attractive stand, which offered visitors an immersive experience that allowed them to delve into the beaches, mountains and culture of this territory that last year received more than seven million tourists.
But beyond showing its beauties, the Dominican Republic achieved important investments that will continue to generate jobs and boost the sector, which is estimated to contribute around 8,670.7 million dollars to the economy by 2022.
Among the country’s main achievements at Fitur, according to official reports, were the following:
Pioneer Group announces construction of ambitious tourism project. The Pioneer Investment Funds Administrator announced the development of Yanuna, a project that will provide 4,213 hotel rooms and 1,640 residential rooms. It will be located in Macao, a town located at the northern end of Punta Cana.
Signing of agreements. The Ministry of Tourism (Mitur) signed agreements with Tui and Iberia airlines, with El Corte Inglés travel agency, among others.
Investments in Miches. Mitur and Promiches announced the start of new hotel developments for more than $735 million dollars in Miches, the municipality located in El Seibo province, Eastern region, which has become a major tourist center. It is projected that more than 3,700 hotel rooms and 2,000 residential rooms will be built in the area.
In addition, during the fair, the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, met with more than 200 travel agencies and tour operators from Europe, a region which is the second largest source of tourists to the country.
In general terms, at Fitur, the Dominican Republic made investments for an amount of 3,445 million dollars for the development of new hotel infrastructure, according to reports from the official agency.
PRIVATE SECTOR
The Banco Popular Dominicano reported that during its participation in the Fitur it was able to consolidate loans for projects already under development and potential for an amount exceeding 1,230 million dollars, which would mean some 8,720 new hotel rooms.
Other news during Fitur
Banco de Reservas opened a representative office in the Spanish capital, the first outside the Dominican Republic. The bank also announced that it will finance the first Planet Hollywood hotel, to be built in Punta Bergantín, Puerto Plata.
