Mount Redonda and sky swing
Mount Redonda or Montaña Redonda
Today, thousands of tourists are happy to show off photos on the heavenly or, as they are also called, winged swings. Vacationers talk about their “flights” on a broomstick and describe in bright colors the incredible landscapes that open from the top of the mountain.
At the same time, Redonda itself was open to mass tourists just a few years ago. And in a short period, she managed to become one of the business cards of the Dominican Republic.
Today, about 80% of vacationers who prefer climbing Redonda to a beach holiday are Russian-speaking and Ukrainian tourists. And the mountain itself, through the efforts of pseudo-guides, is literally every day more and more shrouded in a halo of myths. And we will try to debunk them.
This is a popular myth. In fact, the height of the mountain is about 300 m – according to the company that manages the service at the top. Or about 150 m – as the terrain maps say.
However, when you stand on top of Redonda, an optical illusion is created. The fact is that on the one hand you have a view of the mountains, and on the other – the lowlands and the Atlantic landscape. Because of such a contrasting transition, it seems that the whole world is at your feet.
Well, or at least – the whole Dominican Republic
Climbing the mountain is very dangerous!
And again not true. There are several ways to climb Redonda. On foot – it will take you an hour and a half and depends on your physical fitness. You can book a helicopter tour and we will land right on top of the mountain.
Or the most common method is to use the services of a lift. There are two types of them – trucks with seat belts, as well as pickups.
If you are worried about lifting, it is better to take a seat in the cab next to the driver. If you are not afraid of heights and want to enjoy more beautiful views even during the ascent, feel free to climb into the back of a pickup truck (there are handrails that you can hold on to).
About 10 minutes of travel and what to hide – off-road shaking, and you will see one of the most beautiful landscapes that you have ever seen.
But it is better to refrain from this excursion for pregnant women.
Life hack from Caribbean Tour Service
When climbing a mountain – it is better to take places on the left side, immediately behind the driver – it is from there that you can see the lagoons and Samana Bay.
Absolutely free you can climb the mountain on foot, but it will take you an hour and a half. On the way, you can take a photo with wild-growing papaya, and bananas, and see how the eagles are circling over the top. But in general, this activity is quite tedious and not all tourists can do it.
How to get to Mount Redonda
You can get to the mountain by renting a car and going on an independent trip. Of the minuses of such a trip, there will be many interesting objects on the way, which guides tell about during excursions. And you yourself will not know about it or you will not pay attention. Or as part of a tour.
What amenities can you expect in Redonda?
At the top, there are cafes and gazebos with a barbecue area for relaxation. Pavilion rental – $10 per hour. Here you can celebrate a wedding, birthday or any other celebration.
You can also use the services of photographers working on the mountain. Believe me, she got the hang of making the most unusual “flying” shots. And in the photo workshop, equipped in one of the houses, they will display your pictures on the screen, and even print the best ones.
There is a cafe on the mountain where you can order a traditional Dominican lunch, coffee, and cocktails. The price tag is not too high and is affordable even for a budget tourist.
There are also restrooms on Redonda, where, among other things, you can change clothes and prepare for photography.
PHOTO TOUR TO REDONDA MOUNTAIN & LIMON BEACH
There are magnificent views 360 degrees from the mountain. from the one side – the mountain, from the other – the Samana Bay, the wild beach of El Limon.
To the north of the resort of Punta Cana is the recently popular Mount Redonda. From its height, wonderful views of the “other” Dominican Republic open up.
